A little blurry but I think you get the gist:

I make quite a few of these and supply a couple of shops in London with them.

I just found this on eBay.  I love this idea of using a pocket watch as a wrist watch.  It's like the first wrist watch.  It says the watch is a wind up.  Even better.

Here's the link.   Lots more photos.

I've been looking through old images and finding a few I completely forgot about. This one is from January or February. Sadly can't see my outfit that well due to the coat and that car in the background ruins it, but figured I'd toss it up and see what everyone thinks.

[Unknown LJ tag] <--- I.. completely botched that up. And way to realize it too late! (next morning)

No photoshop here, I have no idea why I look so whitely pale.

Hello all! I've been lurking this community for sometime now, and I thought I'd finally post to ask if anyone here is planning to go to AX. If so, is there any interest in a arranging a steampunk gathering?

I'm planning a steampunk group with some friends and wanted to see if anyone else wanted to join us for a steampunk gathering ^^

For those of you who lean towards a more Wild West look, Wild West Mercantile has spurs on sale. I'm particularly enamored of these:

Blades and video framerate match, making the helicopter appear to fly without the main rotor moving. Don't bother turning on the sound; it's just noise.

Although not especially retrofuture at the moment I thought I would anounce my presence none-the-less.

I am a milliner and costume maker and I have a very keen interest in the obscure and wonderful.

Here's a traditional waisted top hat I made earlier:

I have a penchant for making exotic headwear. One of my more recent hats is a mechanical avian audio chronographic alert automata (a top hat with with a working cuckoo clock inside it).

I really like what I see in this community and will do my upmost to post here regularly.

mermelody, posting in steamfashion @ 11:43pm: Searching for ideas...

I'm fairly new to steampunk. Now that I know the name for it, I suppose it's always been something I've been interested in, but as far as fashion goes I'm new. I've always been a bit wild and unafraid with my costuming experiments (I was the only one in a corset and skirt with train at senior prom....) and whatnot and this is definitely right up my alley. But I do need help. I know a lot of steampunk is up to the individual and I love that idea. The problem is with just beginning it's hard to start work on something when there's so much free-room.

I need help on some ideas or perhaps some of your favorite links for costuming in this era. I'm going to an event in about 2 months and want to put together something really wonderful. I'm definitely looking to put together a sort of young lady adventurer outfit...she looks normal and "acceptable" at first glance but perhaps there's something a bit unexpected about her. *sigh* So many ideas to play with! Anyway, any help or ideas at all are quite welcome. I've done bunches of browsing about already, but I know I've certainly not seen it all. ^.^

wormtorturer, posting in steamfashion @ 10:11pm: Metal-framed glasses to goggles?
Since most steampunk goggles don't work over glasses--and goggles that do go over glasses don't look very steampunk--I'm thinking of converting my metal-frame prescription glasses to goggles after I get new glasses. They're medium-size chrome ovals, actually quite similar to Adama's in the new BSG.

So... I looked in the usual places and haven't seen any projects like that. Does anyone here know of this, or will I be breaking new ground? I'm thinking of removing the sides and adding eyecups, or maybe taking the lenses out and making oval goggles around them. I suspect this would be cheaper than getting goggles and having prescription lenses ground for them.

Thanks

Although I'm not a huge fan of the song (a bit too whiney for my taste, but then this _is_ coming from someone who likes The Smiths...) I do like this video. I only noticed tonight that it has a certain Steampunk flair with the colours, the hints of things like the posters and the Rolls Royce motor car... it's rather fun. It makes me want a bird mask to wear with a suit, actually.
last_chael, posting in steamfashion @ 11:43am: Steamifying my Victorian bustle dress
I've been lurking here for a while, finally posting!

My friend decided to do a Steampunk Lolita styled outfit for an upcoming convention, and suggested that I steamify my Victorian bustle dress to join her. I of course jumped at the chance, as I've been wanting to put together a steampunk outfit for a while. Using my bustle dress as the base means a lot less work, and I get to wear one of my favourite outfits :D

My personal aesthetic towards steampunk is the Victorian steam look; at first glance you see a Victorian lady, but then you start to notice little things here and there that just don't quite fit. For the more everyday steam look I lean more towards an Edwardian base (I love long skirts, but bustles are a bit much for everyday wear :P). But since this a convention, I can go all out with the bustle!

photos of my outfit )

Once I've fixed up the actual dress, I can then get onto steamifying it! Here's where I was hoping for a little help from the ladies and gents here! I have a few ideas, but I would really love some feedback!

My thoughts were:
- Creamy white Spats for my shoes, with matching maroon buttons on the outside (as in, the little versions that match my dress)
- Creamy white lace/crochet fingerless gloves
- Attaching a couple of different gold chains to my bodice (as in, attach them to a jump ring, which will be secured to one side of the bodice, sweep across the overskirt and attach at the other side) and hang from this a few ornaments (pocket watch, locket, needle case etc). I'm thinking 3 different chains and it will all be gold
- Either a choker with a cameo (which I had originally intended on doing, so I have the little maroon cameos and frames) or a necklace with a GIANT locket on it
And the finishing touch:
- A White top hat with decorations. I'm thinking a wide hat band made from my bodice fabric with the maroon bias binding in the middle. At the back I'd like to use either white or maroon tulle and have it cascade down the back. Over this I'll attach maroon and gold flowers, and also see what steamy things I can add: cogs, watch hands, cameos. Maybe a feather. :P I'll have to see what I can find when I get to it!

So what do you think? any other suggestions?

fijirunner, posting in steamfashion @ 11:03pm: Something You May Like
Hello all.  This is my first time posting to your wonderful site.  I hope my post is waranted around you people.  I love finding new things and spreading the word.  I have finally gotten a hold of a website about an "organization" which I have been trying to follow recently.  I don't know if you have heard of them but they are called the Secret Society of Odd Acquisition.  Their website is thessoa.com .  So simple I couldn't find it.  It seems they have some interesting projects and items and I figured it would be a fun romp for most of you.

http://cutesygirl.com/ is having a 15% off sale through this week (ends 5/18). Enter MAY15 at checkout for 15% off your entire order (though check that the free shipping on $50+ isn't better!). They've got some screaming deals on some gorgeously steamy boots, and probably shoes if you have the time to go through them all.

I've ordered from the company a few times, even returned stuff with no issue. Brand determines quality, but it's the same stuff you find in many shoe stores, for much less cost.
stella_twilight, posting in steamfashion @ 8:18pm: Why missing the bus is sometimes a good thing.
My replacement was late at work today so I got to the bus station right as they were pulling out and I was too slow to run and catch them so I was left waiting around for 40 minutes. I found the moat amazing gray wool tailcoat in this tiny hole in the wall vintage clothes store. The sleeves are a little long, I may have to repair parts of it and it could use a cleaning but it was too lovely for me to pass up. Wool should go to the dry cleaners right? I think it needs some buttons but I am not sure what kind would look best.

whitemischief00, posting in steamfashion @ 6:54pm: Reminder: London steampunk / neo-Victorian night, Saturday June 7
Dear Steampunk friends

Earlier this year we announced the next instalment of White Mischief, the London neo-Victorian and steampunk themed one-night festival. We included some photos of dressed-up steampunk guests: these pictures can still be seen on Flickr under the tag whitemischief.

Now, with less than one month to go, we'd just like to remind you that White Mischief is coming up, themed to the Jules Verne classic "Around The World In Eighty Days". For full

Partygoers will have an opportunity to play Phileas Fogg, greeted by the mayor of a small town and visiting dignitaries! Our mysterious Hall of Oracles features fortune tellers and a snake dancer with a real snake. The venue will be decorated to evoke travels around the Victorian-era globe, by set designers who worked on Punchdrunk's "Masque of the Red Death".

On top of that we have Victorian comedy troupe the Penny Dreadfuls - who have their own radio show on BBC Radio 4 and BBC7, as well as their own Edinburgh show. There's an aerial acrobat, performing corde lisse above the audience's heads; there's a Guinness World Record sword swallower, one of the few female sword swallowers in the world; and numerous brilliant bands from Ebony Bones to Oojami.

teresangel, posting in steamfashion @ 3:05pm: Is it found object or steampunk?
Delurking. I make and sell jewelry locally. I'm wondering if the fine ladies and gents of this community could lend me their opinions. I would classify this as more of a collage/found object type piece. But yesterday someone called it steampunk. Which got me thinking about the boundaries and influences of what we call steampunk fashion. So...tell me what you think. Is this steampunk?

Oh, materials. Three pieces of antique clock innards, a new store bought sterling spiral, an antique clock hand, antique sterling and turqoise post earring, an aqua aura quartz point, a faceted natural citrine, copper wire, a sterling ball post and a mother of pearl type green stone.

This is the result of nearly a year of work, from concept art starting last year in June, to various stages of done-ness up until yesterday. It was done by Josh Schweigel at Slave To The Needle in Seattle (Ballard location). I'm really happy with how it turned out.
